Anointing Of David Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You do not see the way we see. We look at the outside. You look at the heart. Samuel came looking for the tall, strong, oldest son. You chose the youngest one, the boy still out with the sheep. Help me to stop judging people by what shows on the outside. Teach me to look for the heart the way You do. The person You have chosen may be the one nobody else noticed. Make me a Samuel, willing to change my mind when You point me to someone new. And if I am the one who feels overlooked, the one still waiting while others go ahead, help me to trust Your timing instead of pushing my way forward. I want Your anointing more than I want a throne. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. But Yahweh said to Samuel, “Don’t look on his face, or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for I don’t see as man sees. For man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart.”
