Anointing At Bethany Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord Jesus, You said in Mark 14:6 that Mary had done a beautiful thing. The disciples saw the price tag. A whole year of wages in one flask. They thought it should be sold to help the poor, and that was not a wrong thought. But Mary saw only You. She broke the flask on Your head, and the fragrance filled the whole house. You said that wherever the good news is told, her story would be told too, to remember her.

Lord, I do not want to turn every gift into a math problem. Some things in Your kingdom are not meant to be figured out. They are meant to be given. Save me from always asking, "What is this worth?" when You are asking, "Who is this for?" Let me give costly gifts at the right moments without holding back. Let me love You with more than good sense. The fragrance of a free act still fills the house long after it is done.

Amen.
