Parable
Parable Of The Talents Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped parable prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, You gave each of us a gift, and You gave it in a size You knew we could carry. I admit I look at someone with more and feel cheated. That feeling tells me to hide what I have, like burying it in the backyard. Forgive me. The servant in the story did not lose the gift by bad luck. He lost it because he thought You were unkind. I carry that same unkind picture of You inside me, and it makes me afraid to try. I would rather use what I have and fail than hide it and keep it safe. Help me trade with the gift You gave me, not the one I wish I had. Faithfulness is in the using, not in the size. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
