Parable Of The Mustard Seed Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped parable prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father,

I look at a mustard seed on my spoon, and it seems too small to matter. You compared Your kingdom to a seed like this in Matthew 13:31, and part of me wants to argue. Surely something so tiny cannot be what You mean.

But the parable holds. You are not giving me the whole tree yet. You are giving me the seed. I want to see the tree before I obey. I want a sure result in return for my faithfulness. You offer me Your word and the slow work of growth instead.

Forgive me for despising small beginnings. The quiet prayer I prayed this morning may not show results right away. Plant it anyway. The small act of kindness I showed someone was not much, but it counted.

Spirit, help me stop measuring Your kingdom by its first inch.

Amen.
