Parable

Parable Of The Minas Pounds Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped parable prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord, in Your story, You gave each servant a small amount. Not the whole treasure — just a little to use well. That is how You test my faithfulness too. Not with big things I dream about, but with the small things I already have. The way I speak before my first cup of coffee. A promise I made to a friend that no one else will check on. A quiet hour I could waste or use for good. I have wanted to be tested with something grand. But You are looking at the little I am holding right now. Make me faithful with what You have actually put in my hands. Not the city I imagine, but the block where I already live. You praise the one who is faithful in very little. Help me be that person today. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
