Parable

Parable Of The Leaven Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped parable prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord Jesus, You told a story about a woman who mixed yeast into flour and waited while the bread quietly rose. Your kingdom works the same way. You work in hidden ways while we sleep. I keep expecting Your kingdom to come with a loud noise. But You keep showing me it comes like dough rising in the dark. The change happens between visits. Someone plants a small seed of goodness and does not get to see what it becomes. That is hard for me. I want to see results right away. Make me willing to do small, quiet work that I may not see finished. I would rather be slow yeast in real bread than a loud show that feeds no one. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. He spoke another parable to them. “The Kingdom of Heaven is like yeast which a woman took and hid in three measures13:33 literally, three sata. Three sata is about 39 liters or a bit more than a bushel of meal, until it was all leavened.”
    Matthew 13:33
