Parable Of The King Going To War Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped parable prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord Jesus, You told a king to count his troops before he went to war. Ten thousand soldiers against twenty. A wise king does not march out at half strength and pretend the difference is not real. He sends an embassy and asks for the terms of peace.
This parable does not flatter me. There are battles in my life where I am about to fight at half strength because I will not admit my numbers. I will not call You the larger force. I keep planning my own way and losing.
Today, let me send the embassy. Let me ask for terms. Your terms are not humiliating; they are merciful. It is better to lay down my sword in Your court today than to be defeated tomorrow because my pride would not count the troops I actually had.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
