Parable Of The Hidden Treasure Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped parable prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord, I think about the man in the field. You said in Matthew 13:44 that he sold everything he had, with joy,and bought the field where the treasure was hidden.

What strikes me is the joy.He did not give things up because he had to.He gave them up because he finally saw what was truly worth having.

My problem is not that I have nothing to give.My problem is that I have not seen Your treasure clearly enoughfor letting go to feel like joy.

I keep trying to make a deal.I want a discount.I want to keep my little kingdoms and have Yours too.

So show me, even just once today, what You are really like.Show me enough that giving up the smaller thingsstarts to make sense.

I do not want to focus only on what I give up.I want to focus on seeing You more clearly. If I see You right, the letting go will come on its own.

Amen.
