New Mothers Prayer for December 23rd
A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord Jesus, in Luke You tell a story about a wedding. You say to take the low seat. Then the host says, Friend, come up higher. I want that kind of trust this week. I have been quietly wishing to be noticed more. I want thanks for the meals I make. I want someone to see the work it takes to keep the house going. Help me take the low seat without trying to push myself forward. You are the host. You see me. You know where I sit. Let me rest in that. The low seat is honored when You call me up. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes, he may tell you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you.
