New Mothers Prayer for December 9th

A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You said You would wait so You could be kind to me. The waiting is not because You are slow. It is because the waiting is part of Your kindness. The healing I have prayed for has not come fast. The change I hoped for has not come fast. But You are not waiting against me. You are waiting for me. So when Your kindness comes, it comes whole and not broken by rushing. Let me wait on You, who are waiting on me. Two kinds of patience meeting in the kitchen. That is a slow and honest gift. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
