New Mothers Prayer for October 8th

A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord Jesus, You told Peter to launch out into the deep. Peter had fished all night and caught nothing. He was tired in the bones, and he went anyway. I have one small launch to make today — one hard thing I have been putting off. The launch is not a big brave act. It is just one push from the shore. Let me put the oar in once and not need to know the whole route. You are faithful to provide what I cannot make on my own. The boat is mine to move, by inches if not by yards. Send me out a little farther than I would go on my own this morning. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
