New Mothers Prayer for October 6th

A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord Jesus, You told the woman at the well that Your water would keep her thirsty no more. I am thirsty in so many small ways this morning. I am thirsty for sleep. I am thirsty for a quiet hour. I am thirsty for a friend's voice. I am thirsty for this day to feel different from yesterday. These small thirsts are not wrong. They are just shallow. Let me drink from the deeper well first. The shallow thirsts will stay shallow, and most of them will not be fully met this season. But the deepest thirst is met in You. Pour me a cup of that living water before I keep reaching for lesser drinks all afternoon. Your water is real. It does the deeper work that coffee cannot. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
