New Mothers Prayer for September 12th

A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your word says in Nahum that You are jealous. That word felt strange to me until I remembered what it means. It means You will not share me with another lord. And I have been letting small lords into this house. The phone has wanted my attention more than this baby. The fear of next month has wanted my mind more than this present hour. Let Your jealousy be a kindness to me today. Push out the things that rule me in Your place. You will not split me into smaller pieces. Take this whole tired heart, and tend it. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
