New Mothers Prayer for August 28th

A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, long ago, Your holy tent needed oil for the light, fresh each day. So do I. The lamp of this morning is sputtering before breakfast, and I am tempted to think I should have stored more oil yesterday. I am not asking for a roaring flame. I am asking for the day's portion of oil. Enough to last until the nap. Enough to keep one short verse lit in my chest. Enough to face the people in this home with a glad heart and a steady voice, even when I am worn thin. Pour the day's measure into the lamp. The light does not have to be impressive. It has to stay on. Amen.
