New Mothers Prayer for August 9th
A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Your Word says that in the city to come there will be no need for sun or moon, because You Yourself will be its light. This week I lean hard on small comforts — the second cup of coffee, the white noise machine, the show I half-watch while the baby sleeps. Let me receive them as gifts without treating them as the ground under my feet. My routines do not hold up this day. You hold up this day. You are also the light of the city to come. The coffee is a kindness. It is not the floor. You are the floor. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
