New Mothers Prayer for August 7th

A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord Jesus, I do not feel upright this morning. I do not feel full of love either. But I want to love You anyway. The same way I love my baby even when I am too tired to feel tender — by doing the next thing love asks for. By choosing Your name in the hum over the crib. By thanking You for the warm sink water. By refusing the rehearsed grievance. Affection can come and go. I want a steadier kind of love this season. The kind that does the work. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
