New Mothers Prayer for August 3rd

A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, in Your Word, John saw the city You are making new. He wrote that Jesus, the Lamb, is its light. I am not in that city today. I am in a living room with a baby on my chest and the curtains pulled against the heat. But the Jesus who will light that city is the same Jesus who is here with me now. Help me look up, for just one moment, and remember that what You are preparing is real. The Lamb whose name I spoke over the bath this morning is the same one who will light forever. He is the same one. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
