New Mothers Prayer for August 1st

A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, in the Bible, Ruth went to a field she did not own. She picked up what the harvesters had left behind. She gleaned. Let me do that today instead of waiting for something big. The five-minute nap while the baby sleeps. The call from my sister. The hot water in the shower. Every one of those was left for me by Your hand. Help me pick them up. Make me a good gleaner. Help me bend down for the small gifts You have dropped in my row this week. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

    Ruth 2:3
  2. She took it up, and went into the city. Then her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned; and she brought out and gave to her that which she had left after she had enough.
