New Mothers Prayer for June 26th

A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, the proud are brought low. Even the mighty fall.

Tonight, I take a strange comfort from this. The people I have been comparing myself to are smaller than they looked. They also get tired. They also fall. They also fail in the middle of an ordinary day.

The friend whose life looks easier is a fellow tired person. The mom on the screen with the tidy house is not as composed as she looks. They are like me.

This is not a reason to look down on them. It is a release from envy. We are all the same kind of creature, needing the same God.

Bring me back to the level ground at the foot of the cross. Loosen my eyes from the comparison game. I am one of many. You are one God.

Amen.
