New Mothers Prayer for June 14th
A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Psalm 37 says that when I delight in You, You give me the true desires of my heart. Delight first. Then desires shaped by that delight.
I have been doing it backward. I treat delight like a reward. If You give me what I want, then I will be happy with You. I confess that order is wrong.
Turn my heart around. Let me delight in You as You really are, before I sort out what I want. Then let my desires start to change. Some will grow. Some will go quiet. Some will fall away.
Delight is not a feeling I have to force. It is a slow attention I can choose. Looking at Christ. Resting in being known. Receiving the gifts already in front of me, even in this tired hour.
Let me delight in You today. Let my wants reshape themselves around who You are.
Amen.
