New Mothers Prayer for April 14th
A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Psalm 22 says that people looked at Jesus and laughed at Him in His pain. He took that scorn so I would not have to be afraid of it.
I have been afraid of smaller kinds of scorn. The mother at the playground who looks at my baby's outfit. The aunt who comments on my weight. The friend who seems to be doing motherhood better than me.
Christ took the worst of it on the cross. I am no longer under it. What others think of me does not get to rule me.
When I feel small under someone's gaze today, turn me back to the gaze that matters. You see me. You love me. You are not laughing. What You think of me is the only opinion that lasts.
Amen.
