New Mothers Prayer for March 25th

A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, I am so tired and so grateful at the same time.

Lord, do not let my closest gestures be the false ones. Do not let my voice be tender to the baby and sharp to the one I love most. Do not let me be kind to strangers and cold at home.

I feel the pull to be two people. Smiling on the outside. Slipping where no one sees.

Make me one person. The same kindness in the kitchen as in the photo. The same honesty in the dark at midnight as in the church pew.

Forgive the small betrayals I have not even noticed. Heal them. Hold me together tonight.

Amen.
