New Mothers Prayer for January 22nd

A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Jesus said He is the vine, and we are the branches. A branch has nothing on its own. It only bears fruit because it is connected to the vine.

I have been pretending I should have more in myself than I do. I have been irritated with my own limits, as if being tired means I have failed.

It does not. I am a branch. I never had a deep well inside me. I have what You give me throughout the day, and at night I have less.

Thank You for the gift of this child and for every small mercy today. I do not want to fight against the limits You gave me. Feed me. Let me draw from You for the next hour without apologizing for needing to do so.

I will not be ashamed of needing You today.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
