New Mothers Prayer for January 9th

A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Jeremiah 31 holds a short promise: "I will be their God." I am sitting with the baby on my chest, and I do not have a long prayer in me today. I have that sentence.

You are my God. Not the God I earn. Not the God I impress when I do everything right. Mine, because You said so.

In a season where I cannot keep many promises, I need to know You can keep Yours. The dishes will sit. The thank-You notes will not get written. The baby book is empty. You will still be my God when I close my eyes tonight.

That is enough today. Let me lean back into it as I lean back into this chair.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
