Kids Prayer for August 20th
A short, Scripture-shaped kids prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord Jesus, You told us to abide in You. Abide is an old word that just means to stay. So I want to stay with You. Stay close. I do not have to do big, impressive things today. I just have to stay. Like a backpack hanging on a hook. Like a kid sitting on a parent's lap. Help me stay, Lord. When my mind tries to wander, gently bring it back to You. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
Remain in me, and I in you. As the branch can’t bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me.
