Kids Prayer for January 1st

A short, Scripture-shaped kids prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, God, this year is brand-new and a little scary because I do not know what will happen yet. Long ago, Your people walked for a long time and ate the same bread every day. Then they reached a new land and ate food from the ground there. Everything changed. Maybe this year is like that for me. Maybe You have new things You want me to taste. Help me notice the new good things when they show up. Thank You for always feeding us, even when the food looks different. I am ready for this year. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray
