Grandmother’s Prayer for December 27th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word shows me a reed growing by the water. Without the wet soil, it cannot stand. Without the water, the green fades. That reed is my life. The water source is You. Apart from You, I wilt. I cannot stand on my own. When I was younger, I could hide my need. A strong body, a sharp mind, busy days. They covered up the truth. Now the cover is thinner. I see my need for You more clearly. That is not bad news. That is true news. You are the one who holds me up. Make my need for You joyful, not reluctant. Walk me through this ordinary day, content to be a reed by Your stream. The standing is sustained. The green is real. The water source is faithful. Amen.
