Grandmother’s Prayer for December 20th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You have loved me with an everlasting love. That love was already there before I was born. It will still be there when this old life is over. It reaches from before time to after time.

This is the verse I lean on when I feel unlovable. When I feel forgotten. When I feel useless, your love is not just for this moment. It is for all moments. It was decided before I ever knew enough to ask. You called me out of darkness into Your wonderful light.

Help me receive that love today, not as something new, but as the same steady love that has been mine since before I took my first breath. Your love is older than my doubts. It is older than my failings. It is what made this life possible.

Walk me through this ordinary day inside that everlasting love. Let it be the air I breathe. Let it be in the way I sit down at my quiet table with my hands wrapped around a warm cup.

Everlasting. Not running out. Not on a schedule. Just continually loving.

Amen.

  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
