Grandmother’s Prayer for December 16th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord Jesus,

You said, "Come to me, all You that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give You rest."

That word is for me this morning.

The laboring at my age looks different from earlier seasons. The work is not paid. The heaviness is not money.

The labor is the long carrying of prayers for my family. The heaviness is the slow griefabout friends who have gone, the country's worries, the small daily fatigue of an old body.

You said, "Come."I am coming.Slowly.With the load of my prayer list. With the load of my own small troubles.

Not the rest of doing nothing. The rest of being carried. The rest of laying the heavy load on Your shouldersand walking lighter for the rest of the day.

Take the load.Give the rest. Then send me back into the daywith what I need, not with what I have been carrying.

Amen.
