Grandmother’s Prayer for December 13th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You have given to me without measure across the decades. The mercy at the funeral. The strength in the long illness. The kindness from neighbors in the lean year. The patience for the prodigal years. None of these came with a careful limit. They came in the amounts and moments needed, sometimes far more than I expected. Lord, the gospel is the greatest gift You have given without measure. Your mercy is bigger than my sin. Your grace is not counted out. It is poured. Your acceptance is not partial. It is full. Today, let me serve without holding back. Be kind without counting the cost. Pray without rationing my words. Give without measuring what it takes. You have given to me without limit. Help me pass some of it on the same way. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
