Grandmothers
Grandmothers Prayer for December 12th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Your ways are everlasting. That is what Habakkuk learned after all his hard questions. Your ways were there before my questions. They will be after. Lord, my own ways have not been everlasting. I have changed jobs. I have changed churches. I have changed my mind about parenting, about politics, about a hundred small things. Some of those changes were growth. Some were just seasons. But Your ways did not change. They were the same when I was young as they are now that I am old. They were the same when the country was quiet as they are when it is loud. They were the same when the church was full as they are when it is thinning. Lord, walk me through this day in that steadiness. The new phones. The new arguments. The new ways my grandchildren talk. They come and go. You go on. Set me on Your ways for as long as I have left to walk. They will hold the weight. Amen.
