Grandmother’s Prayer for December 7th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You said in Your Word that You choose the small and overlooked things of this world. You turn the world's way of ranking people upside down. You choose the ones the world walks right past.

This verse has been my steady song for many years, Lord, when I have felt small and unseen. The little church we joined in the suburbs was not fancy, but it was home. The friends I knew from simple neighborhoods taught me more about prayer than the ones with big titles. The quiet woman in a small apartment, whose name most people will never know, mattered to You.

None of these people is bad or low in Your eyes. They are just the ones the world overlooks. And You chose them. You chose me.

Lord, today let me hold my quiet place with dignity. Not because I am trying to seem more than I am, but because You chose the small and overlooked, and I am glad to be among them. You did not choose by mistake. You wanted Your grace to shine, not my status.

Walk me through this Saturday, glad to be a small chosen thing. My smallness is not a problem. It is the place where Your love can be most clearly seen.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
