Grandmothers Prayer for December 6th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word says that those who belong to Christ already share in His heavenly likeness, even while the body is still earthly. This truth has held me as my body has slowed. My hands are not as quick. My legs are not as strong. The body is wearing out. It will return to dust. But the work of Your Spirit in me is already heavenly. It does not slow as the body slows. It does not decline as the body declines. The heavenly life has already begun in me. Lord Jesus, comfort me with this: the slowing of the body is not the slowing of the soul. The two are on different paths. The body will be raised in Your time. But the heavenly work is already at work in me today. Let me serve from that heavenly life, not from the fading strength of the flesh. Give me the patience that is the Spirit's. Give me the hope that is the Spirit's. Give me the love that is the Spirit's. These do not need a young body. They grow in a tired one. Walk me through this ordinary day in that heavenly likeness. Amen.
