Grandmother’s Prayer for December 5th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word says: ask, and it will be given; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will open. Three words. Ask. Seek. Knock. Lord, I have done a lot of asking. But I have not always kept seeking. And I have rarely kept knocking. There are things I prayed for and then stopped going after. A hurt in my family I asked You to fix, but I gave up too soon. The growth of my grandchildren. I have asked for, but I have not kept standing at Your door for it. Father, I do not want to just name my wants and walk away. Help me move from asking to seeking. Help me move from seeking to knocking. Walk me up to Your door this morning. Let me stand there. Let me keep knocking. You open the door to the one who keeps at it. Amen.

How to pray it

  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
