Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for December 4th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, You told Paul in Corinth, 'I have many people in this city.' Paul could not see them yet. But You already knew them. Lord, that word has steadied me through years when the church here felt small. You still have many people in our city. I have not met them all. They are in the apartment buildings, schools, and hospitals. I cannot see them. But You can. They are already on Your list. Lord, today let me live as one who knows there are more of Your people around me than I can see. The cashier I keep hoping is one. The new woman in 5C who carries her Bible some mornings. The young father at the playground whose face has a strange peace on it. Maybe each one is Yours. Let me be kind and gentle. Let me be the kind of person who does not push them away. You have many people in this city. Help me trust that. Help me be kind to all, knowing Your count is bigger than mine. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
