Grandmother’s Prayer for December 2nd

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord Jesus, You said to the bride, You are all fair, my love. That verse startles me. I see wrinkles. I feel the slower walk. But You see what the mirror does not show. You see the bride You are making. Father, this is not flattery. This is truth. You have been shaping me for a long time, and You are still at work. I would never call myself all fair. My body is wearing out in ways I can count on. My face is not the one I used to know. But You see past all of that. You see the bride underneath. You call her all fair. Help me receive that word this morning. Not brush it off. Not blush and move on. Let it land. The fairness is Your doing. The wonder is mine. Walk me through this day as a bride beloved by a Bridegroom who calls her all fair. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
