Grandmother’s Prayer for December 1st

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Psalm 74:17 says You made summer and winter. You made them both. Neither one is a mistake. You set each one in its place.

Lord, my life has had summer years and winter years. There were summers with a full house, noise, and children underfoot. Now there are winters with quiet rooms and slower mornings. Both came from You. The winter is not the summer failing. It is what winter is meant to be. It is a season for rest and for the quiet work that only happens in the cold.

This December, the cold outside and the quiet inside feel the same. Help me receive this season as Yours. Not just to get through it, but to take it from Your hand. The trees outside my window are still at work in their sleep. You are still at work in me.

Thank You for the good summers. Thank You for this winter too, in its own quiet way. Walk me into this month as one who trusts the Maker of every season.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
