Grandmother’s Prayer for November 29th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word says not to go around spreading stories about others. That pattern is older than I am. It is a temptation that does not retire when I do. Lord, today let me keep the tale to myself. The story about the woman down the hall. The thing about the leader at church. The hearsay about my own family. None of it has to leave my mouth or my fingers. If I must say something hard, help me say it to the person. If I do not have to say it, help me say nothing. Walk me through this day with a guarded tongue and an honest heart. Both are needed. Both are loving when done in the right place. Amen.

  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
