Grandmother’s Prayer for November 23rd

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word says that if I claim to walk with You but live in the dark, I am not being honest. I do not want to pretend. The small dark places in me are not big or loud. They are quiet. A small unkindness I have not let go. A quiet grudge I am still holding. Pride in my own opinions. None of it is hidden from You. Today I do not want to sit in the dark corner anymore. I want to walk into the light. Help me name one thing. Just one quiet thing. Then help me take one small step the other way. That is enough for today. Let my fellowship with You be real, not pretended. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
