Grandmother’s Prayer for November 11th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, underneath are Your everlasting arms.

They are underneath me. Not above, pushing down. Below, holding up. They do not tire. They do not let go. They do not change shifts.

I see it like this. The floor holds up the chair I sit in. The floor by the beam. The beam by the foundation. Underneath all of it, finally, are Your arms. This whole life rests on them.

Lord, today is heavy. Not for one big reason. Just heavy. And I think the heaviness is felt because I am leaning down into something. Your arms underneath catch the weight.

I do not have to muscle this day. I have to lean.

Your arms are there. They have held me through every heavy day before. They have held the people I love through theirs. They will hold the days ahead, even the heaviest one, the day I go home.

The arms hold. The leaning is mine to do.

Let me lean today. Let the heaviness be carried by You.

Amen.
