Grandmother’s Prayer for November 9th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Colossians 2:6 says to walk in Him. Yesterday I sat with what it means to receive Him. Today You ask me to walk.

The walking is in Him. Not toward Him. Not for Him. In Him. The union I received is the air I breathe.

Lord, the walking at my age is slow. The walk to the mailbox. The walk across the room to the phone. The walk down the church aisle to my pew. Each one is a chance to walk in You.

The patience while the slow young woman at the post office sorts her stamps. The kindness on the phone with the bank teller. The quiet prayer as I lie down for my nap. Each step can be walked in You if I keep the receiving present.

Today, let me walk in You for the few steps the day asks of me. The walking is enough. Faithfulness is not in the size of the steps. It is in the steady use of the union You gave me.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
