Grandmother’s Prayer for November 3rd

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, in Acts 9:11, You looked at Saul and said, "Behold, he prayeth." One line. That was enough. He had been hunting believers. Now he was praying. And You noticed.

That one line has comforted me for years. I think of my prodigal son, praying in years I could not see it. I think of my granddaughter in her own dark stretch. I do not always know when my people are praying. But You see. The noticing is Your work, not mine.

Lord, send a "behold, he prayeth" moment to the people on my list this week. I do not have to make it happen. I do not have to know about it. I just have to keep praying for them, trusting that the praying I cannot see in them is being noticed by You.

And remind me that someone may be praying for me right now whom I do not know about. The widow downstairs whose name keeps coming to mind. The cousin's husband across the country. The praying is a wider web than I can see.

Keep me in it. Keep noticing the praying of those I love. That is enough for a quiet Monday.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
