Grandmother’s Prayer for October 30th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You said to praise You with my whole heart. Not part of it. Not what is left over after worry and weariness. All of it, gathered up and given to You.

Lord, my heart at this age is more divided than I would like to admit. Some of it is still holding on to old hurts. Some of it is scattered across worry for my grandchildren. Some of it is just tired.

But You do not wait for me to get it all together. You call the pieces back. You say, all of You, come now. Bring the worry with You. Bring the hurt with You. Bring the tired part too. Lay them down at Your table. Then offer them, all of them, as praise.

You are not asking for fancy words. You are asking for my whole heart. And the strange thing is, the praising is what gathers me. As I begin to praise You, the pieces start coming back to one place.

So here is my whole heart, Lord. It is what I have left. Take it. Make this a whole-hearted day, even in its ordinary shape.

Amen.
