Grandmother’s Prayer for October 13th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Your Word says there are two kinds of sorrow. One leads to change. One just goes in circles. I have felt both. There is the sorrow that keeps going over the old hurt. And there is the sorrow that names the wrong and turns from it. The first one is heavy. The second one is heavier at first, but it gets lighter. Lord, help me choose the harder one. The one that turns. When I think about how I spoke in anger, bring me to You. Let me turn from it, not keep going over it. When I think about the call I did not return, bring me to You. Let me pick up the phone, not just feel bad about it. You are the one who saves and heals. Not my sorrow. You. Let my grief today move me forward, not keep me stuck. Walk me through this day turned toward You, not stuck in yesterday. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
