Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for October 12th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Your Word tells me to meditate on what You have said. Not to rush through it. Not to speed-read my way to the next page. But to sit with a few words and turn them over, the way I turn a stone in my hand.
Lord, my Bible reading has changed over the years. When I was young, I read fast and wide. Now I read slow and narrow. Some mornings, I sit with just one verse the whole time. That is enough. That is the assignment. Not to write a lesson. Not to make a speech. Just to sit with Your words and let them sink in.
Today, my verse is small. I will carry it with me through the ordinary parts of this day. Meditating is the obedience. The result is up to You. Sometimes the result is one quiet thought that stays with me. Sometimes I cannot name what changed, but the day is steadier for it.
The verse trusts You with the outcome. So will I.
Meditate. Such a simple word. So well-suited for an old woman in a chair.
Amen.
