Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for September 25th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, You are just. You are also the one who makes the sinner right. Those two things have to stay together. You did not bend Your rules to forgive me. You met them fully at the cross. That is where justice and mercy meet.
Lord, I have leaned on this truth for a long time. I have not always understood it well. But I have understood it well enough to put my whole weight on it. A God who is truly just cannot just look past sin. But through what Jesus did on the cross, You can forgive me and still be fair. Those two things are not fighting each other. They come together in Him.
Jesus, You are the place where they meet. I have nothing to bring to this except my open hands. Learning to receive has taken me years. In some seasons, I tried to put in my own effort; in other seasons, I wondered if I had received at all. But the truth does not move. You are just. You are the justifier. The one who believes is made right. I am that one. I am made right.
Today, walk me in the calm of that. Not worried about whether I have done enough. Settled in what You have done. That is the good news. It is enough.
Amen.
