Grandmother’s Prayer for September 15th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, this year has been full of hard news. Family diagnoses. A funeral in our circle last month. The national news. My own check-up coming up. Psalm 112:7 says that when my heart is fixed and trusting You, I do not have to be afraid of bad news. Lord, fix my heart this morning. Pin it to You. Not to outcomes. Not to my own hopes for how the doctor's call should go. Pin me to the One whose character never changes. Once my heart is fixed, the bad news can come, and it will not shake me the way it would if my heart were loose. Help me do this now, before the next call comes. I will read a psalm out loud. I will speak a true thing about You in this quiet room. I will remember a time You were faithful, and I will say it out loud. When the news comes, my heart will already be fixed. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
