Grandmother’s Prayer for September 13th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Your Word says that pilgrims passed through the valley of tears and made it a well. The weeping valley became a place where others could drink. Thank You that the hard valleys I have walked through were not wasted. The loss, the fear, the long waiting, the grief I carry — You have turned them into help for someone else. A younger woman found comfort because I had been through my own dark valley. A friend found hope because I had walked a similar road. Keep me from seeing my past pain as only my own sorrow. Help me see it as a well You have filled. Today, show me one valley I have walked through and help me see it as the well it is. Then send one tired person to find help there. Make it simple — a phone call, a cup of coffee, a note in the mail. Let the old griefs that You have filled with water keep giving life to others. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
