Grandmother’s Prayer for September 9th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, You said to call to You, and You would answer and show me things I do not yet know. So I am calling this morning. Not for something big or loud. I am too old for that. I am asking for one new thing to know about You today. One small thing I did not see yesterday. One Bible sentence that feels new. One person on my list whose face comes to mind in a fresh way. Lord, I am calling quietly, from my chair, with the same voice my grandchildren know. Show me something this morning. It does not have to be large. It does not have to be special to anyone else. It only has to be from You. I will pay attention. Make me someone who notices the small things You bring. Then take me into the rest of this day with whatever You have given. That is enough, and it is good. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
