Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for August 24th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, there are walls in front of my children and grandchildren that I cannot break. The wall my son faces in his marriage. The wall my granddaughter faces at her job. The wall my daughter faces as she cares for me in the years ahead. I have spent years trying to break these walls with prayer and worry. The walls have not moved. But You are the Breaker. You go ahead of us and break open the way. We follow through. Lord Jesus, let me pray today like one who is behind You, not in front of You. Let me name each wall, hand it to You, and trust the breaking to You. When You make the opening, we will walk through. The breaking is Yours. I do not have to do it alone. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
